In the spring of 2023, new EU rules were adopted\u00a0to reduce the energy consumption of electrical appliances when they are in \u2018standby\u2019 mode. The revised rules introduce a number of amendments to the\u00a02008 ecodesign regulation on standby, off mode and networked standby<\/a>, last updated in 2013, following an extensive consultation exercise and scrutiny from the European Parliament and the Council. The changes take account of technological and market developments in recent years and extend the scope of the rules, for example now including products with a low voltage external power supply such as small network equipment (including Wi-Fi routers and modems) or wireless speakers.<\/p>\n

By requiring reduced electricity consumption of products when they are in low power mode, the Commission estimates that annual energy savings of 4\u00a0TWh will be generated by 2030 \u2013 that amount is nearly double the annual consumption of Malta and translates to an annual CO2 saving of 1.36\u00a0million tonnes of CO2 equivalent. This will also benefit consumers by reducing their bills, with the total savings for consumers estimated at \u20ac530\u00a0million a year by 2030.<\/p>\n

Already in 2007, Beninca began the development of the ESA BASIC system, which ensured low consumption of existing automations by turning off peripheral systems when they are in standby mode. The first product range integrating the ESA SYSTEM was also developed.
\nThe ESA (Energy Saving Automatic) system was developed to reduce the energy consumption of the automations when they are in standby mode.
\nAvailable in two versions:
\n> INTEGRATED: into our state-of-the-art 24Vdc power systems;
\n> STAND-ALONE: the ESA BASIC accessory that can be applied to both 230VAC and 24VDC automations.
\nExample: 5m sliding door driven by BULL624ESA (full maneuver in about 60 seconds), at an average of 20 maneuvers per day, setting TCA=10 seconds, enabling the ESA logic results in ANNUAL SAVINGS of 161 kW.<\/p>\n

BENINCA does not stop with its innovations and the current range of automations for portals and garage doors includes two energy-saving solutions: ESA+ technology and the use of electronic pulse power supply, which fully comply with the new regulation.<\/p>\n

ESA+ TECHNOLOGY<\/p>\n

This system allows the automation to save energy, reducing consumption when the engine is in stand-by mode.<\/p>\n

The system is available in more than 16 models for residential and non-residential building automation, guaranteeing standby consumption values below 0.8 W, in compliance with European regulations.<\/p>\n

ELECTRONIC PULSE POWER SUPPLIES<\/p>\n

Using electronic switching power systems instead of a traditional linear power supply (eg a transformer) results in energy savings with greater efficiency and less power dissipation, most of which is thermal, when the automation is in standby mode. What’s more, thanks to the intelligent management of connected peripherals and mains power, this solution protects the automation by extending the life of electronic components and better managing engine performance.<\/p>\n
